I am interested in furthering my education and looking into taking something online, since I am a stay at home mom it seems about the best way for me to go about getting a degree. However does anyone know if employers look at online degrees the same way they do as a degree attained at an actual college, and what online colleges are crediable.
Online education?
If you go to an accredited college and take online courses you should be fine.
Our local community college has been offering online classes since 1997 and offers currently 9 Associate Degree programs completely online along with 100+ classes online. They also have traditional classes. The online classes have students from all over the country.
These programs are not like the self paced ones you see where you order a kit and do it all on your own and then get some certificate. These are real accredited junior college degrees.
I bet your local community may even have a college with online degree programs.
And as a note our school has both high transfer rates and high employment in field rates.
Reply:online degrees have the same value as general degrees
Reply:Most of the brick and mortar campuses have online degrees now, even Harvard has online programs. Online learning is here to stay. If you are interested in an online program then make sure the college is accredited by on of the accredited agencies recognized by the US Department of Education. Also make sure the institution is regionally accredited and not nationally accredited, so courses can transfer. If you are skeptical about online learning, then try a local community college, which will have online courses, so you can test out how online learning works.
Most employers will accept a regionally accredited degree if its online. I am currently working on a masters solely online, but the collage I am attending also has a regular campus.
To check the accreditation of a college, try the CHEA database.

Reply:Chris N will never be a hiring manager due to his/her writing, so don't worry.
Online education is great- actually Mexico has been doing distance education really well for longer than the US because of their rural students.
Look for regional accreditation and avoid schools that don't have brick and mortar campuses or are for-profit. In NY, for example, the city university is well respected and your degree doesn't say ONLINE! It says city university of NY. Harvard has distance education, the stigma is decreaseing. (Chris N won't hire somebody from Harvard? or the state U that is respectable in the area? Ok, then, Chris ???)
Check out chea.org, but remember that regional accreditation is the only one that really counts.
Also remember, school is tough- you have to work your butt off! (ie. a 4 credit class= 10 hours of work). It's worth it, though. Being a stay at home parent is great. good for you!
Reply:Many 'regular' schools offer online degrees or at least online classes. At my university, in Canada, students can choose between taking all or some of their classes online, but do graduate with the exact same degree that those who took all their classes on campus recieve. Employers never know that you took online classes!
And as for the guy who claims that online equates to cheating? Ridiculous, I'm taking online courses right now and they take just as long as lecture courses, sometimes require more papers than the lecture courses do and obviously a lot more reading because instead of a lecture, online/distance courses require one to read everything instead of listening. All exams are supervised too!
Reply:It depends upon what you're planning on studying and which online college you attend.
For instance, I am an online student and am studying medical transcription. This is a very difficult field to break into because most of the work available is in the work-from-your-home format. In my case, I researched out the local colleges for prices and curriculum.
Additionally, I researched out the medical transcription field thoroughly. Ironically, the top two schools in the nation for medical transcription ARE online schools. I chose Andrews School because I wanted their prestigious name on my resume and because their students always have multiple job offers that waive the 2-8 years of experience needed to get a job. In this case, the online school graduates are preferred and are in very high demand--and that demand is not being met.
One thing I did learn in my search for education that involves the online schools--beware of matchbook schools. Remember the old-fashioned matchbooks that had ads printed on the inside cover? You could get a degree in this or that...but you could never get a job with that diploma. (Matchbooks: Stratford, Phoenix, etc.)
You can find more matchbook schools by looking in the informational racks at the local supermarkets. Beware of these types of schools. They "teach" everything under the sun: accounting, veterinary science, massage therapy, sewing, legal aide, etc. Anybody can enroll, and they have such poor standards that everybody passes no matter how crappy their work is. They will always take your money. Sure, you'll easily finish the course--probably with outstanding grades--but the likelihood of you ever getting any type of employment from this type of school is nil. Don't waste your money.
Now, there are good brick and mortar colleges that also have online schools, and they award diplomas that do not necessarily mention the online training. You can even go to the cap and gown ceremony with the good schools.
You may want to take just one online course to get the feel for it. It is a very difficult way to attend college. You have to be the go-getter here. You have to schedule your hours and stick to those hours. It's not as easy as a lot of people think it is.
I've attended traditional brick and mortar colleges, and I've done regular online colleges. I will say this about the experience: depending upon your ambition, your tenacity, and your quest for knowledge, you can get a better education via the online option.
I have found that online college work is much more difficult than attending regular classes, and I often found myself wishing that I went to the brick and mortar college because those classes tend to be much easier.
Bottom line: research thoroughly before investing your money. Some occupations (such as medical transcription) actually prefer the online graduates. Other occupations, I suspect, may look down on folks who went the online option.
As far as which online colleges are credible, I can't help you there. You don't mention what you want to study, what area of the country your are located (some schools require you going to the campus for proctored exams), and what type of employment you desire.
Start by checking out the websites of the colleges and universities in your area. You can call the local schools and talk to one of their counselors and recruiters too. You're more likely to get a straight answer from them.
I almost enrolled in Kaplan, but I am glad I didn't. After I signed up on the internet for more information (they all require your phone number), I got dozens of dunning phone calls. Beware of the big push and the "sign up now" lest you have to pay more tuition routine. The matchbook schools employ telemarketers that have to meet quotas and get bonuses for each person (fish) they snag with a binding contract.
Do your research here. There are many excellent online schools where you can get a legitimate diploma that doesn't say "online" school. It just lists the name of the university or college.
Good luck with your search for a school!
Reply:If I owned a business, an on line degree would not hold any more weight than a high-school degree. I don't know how on line colleges work, but I think the premise is to get through college faster and easier. Anything that is either fast and/or easoer is not worth doing. As such, I think an on line degree holds no weight. I equate it to cheating.

Online nerdy Bf & Gf?
Why do people want bf and gf online? O_O
You know your never going to meet them because of well-known problems such as:
Ugly
Bad guys
Age diffrents-es
Location
Day jobs
Or simply not your type.
When I was young it was for they're online items. Like a moocher.
So heres the question. Is it for online rep, because they have feelings for this person's acc, or because they can get one in real life? Or...Do most already know each other?
Online nerdy Bf %26amp; Gf?
The only way I like a girl, is to hang around her for a while..... and see if im gonna like her. Why talk to a girl on the phone for a year, and have in your mind what YOU THINK she looks like, and acts like... then meet her and be totally disappointed? STUPID! I agree with ya
Reply:well u can meet someone from online...Seriously come on cause look at all those dating sites....I've known a lot of people to meet online and get together or get married and have great relationships..Maybe people are open about it and stay positive like we can meet or we'll have a good life together... sometimes it is easier to date online and get to know each other than meet someone in person and try to get to know each other cause some people feel more comfortable talking online/ims/emails than face to face
Reply:I met my last boyfriend online. He was very attractive (and I don't think I'm nerdy or ugly in any way either).
It was a long relationship and while it didn't end up working out, I feel better for having it than not at all.

Online college for high school students?
I was looking into taking college coures online whill I and still in high school. Will other colleges except the credits that I get online? And what would be the best online program to enroll in?
Online college for high school students?
Local community colleges often offer online courses. Besides that, I'd suggest against doing online college classes. They don't transfer to real colleges most of the time.
Reply:I've heard BYU has a good online program, and relatively cheap for a good class that is likely to transfer. A lot of the kids here take them for dual credit.

Online Store?
If or do you buy Get Well Soon, Humour, Occasions, Birthday, Greetings Cards online? If so what do you pay and if not what would you pay for real high quality cards online?
Are you bothered by the look of the online store?
Online Store?
Michelle, I'm sorry I don't know anything about buying or selling cards online. I just wanted to make a comment about the look of the online store - Of course I am bothered what it looks like - wouldn't you be? I design web sites for a living and believe me the best are the professional looking easy to use ones.
Good Luck and sorry for the rant!!
Reply:I sometimes buy them from a friend who has her own card business, sometimes I buy one from a high street shop.
I would buy them online if I found a good website that accepts debit cards (most only take credit cards) and does cheap/ free postage.
Reply:I would normally buy this sort of product in a high street shop.
If you set up an online store it really needs to be selling something unique as there is a lot of competition - I just googled cards %26amp; found that Clinton cards are online: http://www.clintoncards.co.uk/
I would suggest that you need to do some research by checking out the competition %26amp; yes, the site needs to look good i.e professional.
EDIT: PS Why not set up a shop on EBay - it will be a good test of demand %26amp; obviously the eBay site will get much more traffic than a site that you set up.
If you want, you could have a web site %26amp; link to it from an ebay shop.

Online Relationships/Dating Over the Net - Good/Bad?
Hi. I met a girl recently, or she met me, rather, on the net. We are about 3 years apart but she is just the most amazing girl I've ever met...or so she seems to be online. Anyway, for the past 5 weeks we've been inseparable over the computer. Everyday I come home and go online she's waiting there to talk with me, so we do for hours and hours into the next morning. We care about eachother a lot and it's a pretty intense thing we have going right now, in every sense of the words. It's not a sex thing, but from what she's displayed to me online, I do genuinely care for her a lot. I live in Maine and she lives in Vermont, about a 4-hour drive away, making this difficult to carry over into real life.
She said sh wouldn't want to date because of the distance, but if we were closer she would, in a heartbeat. I know she really cares about me too, but what should I do? I know I've already gotten too close to just walk away. I told myself I wouldn't but it just snuck up on me.
Help!
Online Relationships/Dating Over the Net - Good/Bad?
Understand that when you meet someone only you are not really meeting them. I only say this because yes I met someone only, we starting talking online like crazy. She was really apprehensive to meet me after she said flat out that she wanted to go out on a date with me. So we finally met and yeah, to say the least she was really disappointing in real life. When we met she didn't quite look as good as she did in her pictures, and she was totally bland and said maybe 10 words the entire night. Now I am not saying that you shouldn't date her or see her, but understand that you chatting online only equates to about 10% of who that person really is. When you meet someone in the flesh, you get a better sense about who they are. Now I do suggest you get her to come and see you and take her to the old port, assuming you live in Portland, that way you guys can have a fun night out, and if she is not what you are looking for, then no harm no foul, she stays for the night and leaves the next day. Just remember to put more emphasis on who she is when you actually meet her then talking to her on the computer. Hope this helps.

Reply:Well, this story certainly sounds familiar. My advice to you is to GET OUT NOW. Do not date people over the Internet. This is coming from someone who has been there, done that. I met a man eight years ago. He lives in CA and I am in TN. We've always talked about meeting but for the past two years, I've been quite serious about it. Well guess what...we have yet to meet! I feel pathetic, but so attached to him. It is really hard to let go. I am so attached to him that I have declined dating guys that are HERE in MY AREA so that I could be with this guy over the Internet. And can he hold me and kiss me? No. Can he share a dinner with me? No. Can we go on exciting adventures together? No...only in fantasy. It sucks. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't have continued talking with that man. I didn't know I was going to have feelings for him. Anyway, here it is, years later, and we can't meet. He keeps making excuses. And so what if we DID meet? Is he going to move here? I am certainly not moving there. The "relationship" is deadend. So I strongly urge you to get out now. I know this is not what you want to hear, but save yourself a lot of heartache and grief. The time you are wasting chatting with this chick, is precious time you could be meeting real life people who you can actually have something with.
Reply:I met my fiancee online and we experienced the same thing in the beginning of our relationship. We stayed on the computer and on the phone getting to know eachother for hours and hours at a time. We exchanged pics and used the webcam until we finally decided to meet in person. Its one thing to carry on a relationship online but you can't really get to know a person until you meet them in person and spend some time together. The distance between us is a lot...he's in NC and I'm in TX....but we didn't let that stand in our way. You should first meet her in person and see if you want to pursue the relationship. 4 hours isn't bad...you could take turns driving the distance on the weekends if you feel the relationship is worth exploring. I made the decision to move to the state that my fiancee is in because we did the long distance for a long time and we know that we want to be together. Long distance relationships shouldn't be permanent and eventually you're going to have to sit down and discuss weather or not to move forward. Good luck on your decision.
Reply:Are you falling for this girl .. then that could be a problem.... if the distance is bothering you now.. then it could affect you further down the track... i suggest you play it cool and be friends.. if there is a chance you could meet the go from there..but keep everything into propestive and you will stay friends for a long time..............

Online Education?
What does everyone think about online education? Is it a joke? Do you think companies look at candidates who received their education online differently than those who attended traditional colleges? I'm looking at doing my masters degree solely online due to working full time, but I don't want to waste my money and time if companies are going to see it as a joke.
Online Education?
A Master's degree is just that... a master's degree. I did lots of post-university courses for teacher's qualifications and they are well regarded. I think it might also depend on what institution you choose.
Reply:Online education is just as good as going to a college for hours a week. The good thing about online education is that you can work on your schoolwork anytime during the day or night. I personally have gotten many college credits online and find the online experience quite rewarding. Now let me say one thing though you must be motivated because there's not a teacher to keep pushing you along. But if you are motivated then I say go for it! Good luck
Reply:It depends. A school that is mostly online and for-profit like University of Phoenix would probably not be looked at favorably by a portion of potential employers. However, there have been many people who have received these degrees that were accepted.
I recommend that you avoid the for-profit schools because of cost. Schools like University of Phoenix overcharge by large amounts. I believe the current tuition at UoP for graduate coursework is close to $800 per semester credit hour. Why would you pay that if graduate coursework at a state university is only $300 to $500 per semester credit hour?
There are plenty of programs at state universities. You just have to look for them. The best place to start looking is at your state university. If I knew what state you were in, I could provide you a direct link to the distance education program at a university in your state. However, here are some other schools to get you started.

Reply:That depends. There are regular state funded institutions that allow one to earn a degree entirely online these days. These schools do not discriminate online vs brick and mortar students, so they have the same standards established as far as admissions, grading, following accreditation standards, etc. Upon admission, you can do the whole program at campus, do half/half, or full time online, or whatever combination you want. When you graduate, your diploma wont have 'online' or anything that would correlate your degree to having been earned online; including transcripts.
Reply:Recruiter may not give you same weightage as any other regular student. I understand your point, i am also working full time and doing my MBA, but i have opted for part time executive MBA. It's more interactive than online course. But i have doe few online courses and they are as good as any others, but you need motivation to complete them.
Reply:Masters degrees online are a different matter than bachelors. Make sure that your degree is accredited (ex... University of Phoenix MBAs are not accredited by the AACSB... main accrediting body for business schools), and will satisfy the requirements that any state professional board would set out. If you are going for a CPA and your licensing board does not acknowledge the program, then you are wasting your time and money.
Check with others in your field, and if you need to choose, pick an online degree offered by a brick and mortar school over for-profit online schools. Better programs will require a residency week, yeah, you will use vacation time for this, but it is a good sign of their academic program. The best thing you can do is to ask someone in hiring position (your head of HR, for example), what THEY think of the program. Independent opinions are always good... online schools will ALWAYS tell you that their program is comperable, but that is not the case.

Online Schooling Question???
I hava a couple questions about online schooling.
Does it matter what online school I chose or does it have to be in my state?
Do they supply books and everything?
I am looking for one that has a criminal justice class also if possible.
I am a sophmore in high school
Arlington Texas
Let me know any other details about online schooling
Online Schooling Question???
Texas doesn't have many online public charter schools. Those are the ones that furnish books and supplies. You will have to enroll in a different type of online school - one you pay for. The costs start around $350/course/semester for tuition, plus the costs of materials.
Here are some online programs you could look into:
Apex:
http://www.apexlearning.com/
K12 (uses some Apex courses and some of their own):
http://www.k12.com/hsc/flash/
(You would do "Consumer Direct", not a virtual school)
Florida Virtual School:
http://www.flvs.net/
NorthStar Academy:
http://www.northstar-academy.org/......
UNL Independent Study High School:
http://nebraskahs.unl.edu/index.shtml......
Center for Distance and Independent Study:
http://cdis.missouri.edu/
These schools furnish transcripts and some have diploma programs.
Reply:No, it doesn't matter what state you live in. On line ed is considered distance learning....often, you don't even have to live in the same country.
To minimize hassle, most on line schools include books and supplies in the tuition cost. You order them through the website before classes begin and they are shipped right to your door.
Find an accredited program....accreditation is crucial, but with criminal justice being a popular major, it shouldn't be too tough to find a program that is fully accredited.
Try contacting the schools in your area to see if they offer on line classes. On line courses taken at a school that also has a physical campus are regarded higher than those taken at strictly distance learning programs. Plus, it is a good idea to try to find a school nearby in case you need to visit campus for any reason.
EDIT: The info I posted is regarding college programs....If you're looking to finish High School, you might have some trouble.

Online dating?
New to the whole online dating world (wonder if I am too old fashioned for it).
When emailing someone met thru the online personals, is it typical to be flirty with more than one person? This guy and I have been emailing a lot for 5 months now, he is very nice and we met once- which I thought went great.
He says a lot of nice things and all and ends his notes with a kiss yet stays as single on the personals site. Normal or ... ? Should I consider it just fun play and nothing more? I think he is fantastic and he is not too far away but am thinking now that maybe he only writes to be nice, or enjoys the 'risk free' world of online chat and Nothing more. (sigh)
Online dating?
You can't put a lot of faith into online dating , most of the people on there have been on for years and it is a big game to them a lot are just players and married men and women posing as single...Email me if you want to talk about it...
Reply:Single? True? Why is single? Is he a psycho sex offender who doesn't like marriage? Or does he have STD's?
Anyone can look charming on the internet world, even dangerous criminals with writing talent. Online dating can get you raped, murdered or infedted with any SDT including HIV (not a good way to die).
I stick to the old-fashion face to face meeting "REAL" people.
Reply:Not normal....if you met him(after 5 months which is excessive) and he hasn't suggested another date then he wasn't interested in pursuing things furthter if he hasn't contacted you to get together again. Be careful with online dating...not everyone is who they appear to be. Strike up a conversation online (careful about giving out personal info like phone #) and meet for a coffee in a public place. If they stick to online conversations then move on...they are not interested in meeting in person.
Reply:I think you need to leave him to decide on his own if he wants more or not. You have even met so he knows what he's got. I would not push it %26amp; wait.... but at the same time don't invest all your emotions on him or you will get hurt. Try to meet others.
Best of luck.

Online business tax question.?
I am trying to start an online businees. Do I have to open a corporation to write off my online business expense? How does the tax work if I make income with an online business?
Online business tax question.?
NOT NECESSARILY, COULD USE A SCHEDULE-C. THEY WILL SEND YOU A 1099-MISC.
ANTHONY, CPA
Reply:I live in NJ and have a online store for a few years. For income tax purposes you use Schedule C, not necessarily you will get a 1099. Income generated by your business will pass through to you as regular income/earnings for tax purposes (i.e. as a sole propiertorship). Your expenses related to business can be deducted, but under your regular deductions, as you are not a separate entitity I did not create an LLC (very popular now) until this year, as I would like to sell food products. At the beginning, you can work your online store with a DBA name (doing business as). First you register your name with your Country Clerk, then you can open even a DBA bank account, If you do not have anything for sale that could potentially generate a lawsuit (food, etc), you may work this way for many years. Remember only that you must pay sales tax for deliveries within your state. One way to avoid this, at the beginning of your business, is not to offer delivery within your state, so you are abiding by the law. Keep accurate records. The advantage of getting your bank account, is that will be easier to accept payments through a card processor, which will deposit credit card payments (minus their commission) directly into your account. Good Luck!
Reply:No, you do not have to as is indicated by the first two answers you received. However, it sure does make things go a lot smoother for tax purposes, deductions, etc...
For one thing, it shows the public, county, state, IRS, and everyone else that you aren't just a hobbiest, and that you're in it for the long run to make a profit and to grow.
establishing yourself as a business/corporation is fairly easy and inexpensive... which you can do without a lawyer. I personally established my corporation in Delaware without a lawyer using Ted Nicholas Book, and it was very easy.
Bottom line is that things go a lot smoother and more opportunities and advantages are available to you when you incorporate.

Online college?
i got to university of pheonix. i was just wondering would an employer be less likely to hire me because i went to school online? i really think online college is more hard because you have to teach yourself alot. unfortunately i have to attend school online because of work. i am in college to become a school teacher
Online college?
I went for my bachelor's at a traditional school, then landed my teaching position. After I had been teaching for a while, I went to get my masters and took those courses online through Walden University. Online courses really aren't too bad. You get to 'attend' class when you have the time and teaching yourself the material isn't too difficult. It just requires a lot of reading on your part, which would happen at a traditional college, too. Talk to some area school districts and see what they say. If they don't like to hire teachers that receive their degree online, you may have to consider a traditional college in order to get a job. Or, start your coursework online then transfer to a traditional school your senior year so that you have a degree from that 'traditional' school. Good luck!
Reply:i agree with you! online modules are tough..

Online Accounting degree from physical college?
I've looked over the questions relating to online accounting courses but most of them have to do with non-physical colleges. In the not too distant future I will have my B.A. from my local university, double-majoring in Philosophy and History. If I cannot raise the money for graduate school, I am considering an attempt at an Accounting degree. An actual university in my state is offering one with all courses performed online. My question:
Is a degree obtained online from an actual university worth as much to employers as one obtained from a classroom setting? And will my having an unrelated Bachelor's from a classroom setting make any difference?
Thanks very much for any reply.
Online Accounting degree from physical college?
I am a CPA. I do not think it will matter if you get an accounting degree from on-line or by physically going to the university. No employer is going to ask you if you went to Rutgers University or got you degree from Rutgers on-line. If you do pursue the accounting degree and since you are young I would suggest you try to take the CPA exam. www.nasba.org gives you information about what is needed in order to sit for the exam. The one thing I can guarantee you is that an accounting degree will always keep you employed because we are always in need.
Reply:There is no difference in an online to a traditional degree. Cause in your diploma it's not going to state how you obtained that degree.
I am with the CPA guy... Accountants... we might not be the best paid but we are always employed.
Good luck

I would like to attend online classes to get a psych degree, I found one that I thought was good, but when i mentioned the name of the school, i got a bunch of horror stories about how they stuck ppl w/paying for student loans by saying that they never attended the online classes. I was wondering if anyone has had good experiences with online classes, and if so, which ones?
Online Colleges?
Congratulations on thinking about furthering your education, you won't regret it.
The state universities and community colleges will be the best and least expensive way to further your education online. Usually degrees obtained online from state universities and colleges will be no different than a degree granted to a student sitting in class. You probably won't get a scholarship, but financial aid is possible.
Stay away from the for-profits because of high cost. Some will be reasonable, but most, like University of Phoenix, overcharge.
If you are just starting your college education or have less than 60 semester credit hours, try your local community college first. They may have an online AA degree program. If they don't, try other community colleges in your state.
Once you have an AA degree, you can enroll in an online bachelor's degree completion program at one of the state universities. Many state universities now have online degrees. The following are some websites to get you started.
http://www.fhsu.edu/virtualcollege/
http://www.peru.edu/offuttafb/degreeprog...

http://www.apu.apus.edu/index.htm
http://www.online.uillinois.edu/
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/ode/CollegeOver...
When comparing tuition costs, you have to check if the school is on semester or quarter credit hours. To convert from quarter hours to semester hours, divide the tuition by 0.67. For example, if tuition is $180 per quarter credit hour, that is equal to $268.66 per semester credit hour.
When you choose a school, make sure it is at least regionally accredited. You can check accreditation at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/search.a... You can learn more about accreditation at http://www.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/i...
Finally, there are a couple of forums online with members who have obtained their degrees online. Some have gone pretty far with their online degrees. The forums are free to join but you can read the forum without joining. You just won't be able to post. http://forums.degreeinfo.com and http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums

As someone who's responsible for hiring people at my fortune 100 company, I can honestly say that any resume sporting an on-line degree goes into the "circular file", regardless of their other qualifications.
I have my MBA from a traditional school, and shortly after I graduated and continually until this day, I have been solicited by the UoP to teach on-line business courses for them. While I have several years of work experience (which they didn't know), I was apparently qualified simply because they purchased a mailing list of graduates from my school and saw I had a degree. Not that PhD professors are better teachers, because some of mine really sucked as communicators, but asking people with limited work and educational experience to teach students shows a lack of concern about educational quality, and more about getting an instructor at a cheap price. If you don't believe me, check out the career section on the UoP site or other job boards and you'll see the low standards they set for educators. (see the ad below)
Getting a real degree tells me the applicant can make a long term commitment that requires sacrifice. On-line classes are the ultimate sign of laziness. With all real colleges offering part-time or evening classes, going the on-line route suggests you're looking for the easy way out. Most employers within reputable companies, including myself, won't take a chance.
Lastly, be prepared for the teasing, either publically, or more probably, behind your back, by your co-workers with real degrees.

Online Addresses for Imagine Gold Card and Rewards 660 Visa Card?
Does anybody know the online addresses for these two credit cards? I want to cancel them, but I owe on them and would like to avoid the embarrasment of cancelling over the phone. I know this is cowardly, but my finances are in such a wreck that I have to do something and simply cancelling these cards online and telling them to send me a final bill (and not answering the phone) seems the easiest thing to do. Thank you, all of you, for your help. If someone could provide me with the online addresses for these two cards I would genuinely appreciate it.
Online Addresses for Imagine Gold Card and Rewards 660 Visa Card?
First, don't cancel these credit cards if you have a balance. Pay the account in full before you cancel. They will automatically raise your rates to the max and drop your credit limit to just what you owe. This will hurt your credit score.
When you cancel credit cards, send a letter to the address listed on the statement for correspondence. Request confirmation that the account is closed,
Oh and what do you have to be embarrassed about? Cancelling credit cards is a normal thing. You don't have to explain why. Just say you want to close the account.

Looking for online jobs?
Toni, it is a bit long route to go. Anyway, I write what I know. Let her log into the site www.43things.com where she can find copious requirements people are trying to accomplish. She can chose any one product and do a small research about it. Next let her log into www.clickbank.com where she can find pages like "sell a product'. Finally let her open her own blog in www.blogspots.google.com. Let her create a hyperlink to whatever product she tries to sell through her own blog. That's it. As and when people log into her blog and try to buy some product or other, your friend earns commission upto 75% on the sale. Best of luck to her.

Online love?
I just met a man this past weekend that I have been talking to online for a year. At first it was very friendly, he contacted me because we went to the same college and didnt know each other. Well, after that long year of chatting, nine months into it we realized how much we liked each other and wanted to see each other. The weekend was great. It was just like we were online. No lies, everything was perfect. We had a strong chemisty, I believe he was attracted to me (always said so since I sent him pictures) since we were kissing and touching all weekend, we had great conversation just like online. He left Sunday and we chatted sunday night both agreeing we still liked each other after our meeting and that we both definitely wanted to see each other again. We both agreed we had a nice vibe going. I think this may have some potential! I think itll be a while before we make a decision about whall come about, but it seems like its going well. Anyone else have a good experience?

My local Online Banking Page won't load....any ideas?
My local bank (small town...2 locations...not a national chain) has an online banking feature. The homepage has a link that says "Online Banking"...click here....you know the drill. Sometimes for days at a time, I cannot access it.
Here's the weird part....It's not just the online banking....I cannot even access the bank's homepage, which should be visible to everyone!
Here's my connection details...Internet is through a wireless router with a Sprint EVDO wireless card. I cannot access the site using any computer in the house. We have tried re-setting the router, bypassing the router using the wireless card in my laptop...nothing.
I can access it at work, so it isn't the site. Now, it has been unavailable for 8 days.
I've contacted the bank, but their "online banking rep" is just a 20-yr-old girl who happens to know more about computers than anyone else in the bank. The last time this happened, it lasted 9 days, then 1 morning...BOOM...it loaded.
HELP!!!
My local Online Banking Page won't load....any ideas?
Are you using Money...Microsoft program?? I just got a notice from my bank...XXXXXXXX Federal Credit Union that, the old version (which was new on Vista!!) is no longer valid...Just thought I'd pass on my little bit on news too..
Good Luck~!
Reply:Try lowering your security setting within IE. It may be set to high. In addition, online banking normally would attempt to install some sort of ACTIVE-X plugin. If you setting is too high then the plugin is not installed.
Good Luck Mate!

Online Business?
Hi all,
I'm living in Jordan (Middle East) and I prepared my online business but one important step in my business I couldn't find any online transaction company (like verisigns, paypal, etc.) support Middle East to open Merchant accounts, why is that? I searched and contacted alot of transaction companies around the world but no luck, the online business is just opened for foreign people (from Europe, the States, etc.)
Can anyone pls. explain that to me?
Thancks,
Online Business?
I think you're able to open an account with Paypal to receive payments through your website, the trouble will be to have this money transferred to your Bank account in Jordan.
Have you tried 2checkout? http://www.2checkout.com
Anyway, this kind of restrictions come mainly for political reasons, I think. And things got worse after the 9/11, it seems the so-called First World Countries look at any movement of funds as a potential terrorism financing. Paypal has even set up a company in Singapore to handle the non-USA residents' accounts.
This is all so crazy it's almost unbelievable. Take Clickbank for instance: they offer accounts for people living in Botswana and South Korea but don't offer an account for any Latin America Country.

so, i've been talking to this guy i met online for a few of weeks. i'm starting to really like him and he's really sweet. i've always said i'd never date anyone online but, like i said, i'm really starting to like him. what should i do? we've only been talking online, so should i try talking to him on the phone or maybe meet him in a public place like a restaurant or something? i dont know what would be a good and safe idea. help? any advise from experience would be good. thanks!
Online dating?
Hey I know esactly where your coming from with this as i met my boyfriend online too. I would definately suggest talking to him on the phone first, but still be cautious of him. Then id suggest going to a bar or restaurant, somewhere familiar, and do this a few times until u know him. Hope it all goes well for you babe :-)
Reply:Definately take it to the phone. If he still sounds like a good guy meet him in public with a friend for protection.

Online relationships?
Ok I am new to online relationships. I have been talking to girls who are far away from me. I was wondering how do you approach talking to someone online? Do you just try to be friends first? How long before you give subtle hints that you are romantically interested in them? How open are girls to online sex? Is this something they would be offended by if I asked them? About how long should I talk to them before I ask if they want to have a sexy chit chat? Or is that just a bad idea all together?
Online relationships?
depends on your age.....

Reply:Bad idea all together my man. Online relationships are only for instant gratification. When you think about, you'll more than likely never meet the person, so it won't mean anything at all. Also, when people are online, they are the person they "wish" they could be. What I mean is this: a dork could act like a popular and socially accepted guy online, but the person on the other end of the chat might not know this. Online relationships aren't a great idea. If you want to have cybersex with someone, then go to some chat room where you can find people just for that. Don't confuse "online relationships" with cybersex buddies. You might think that you want an online relationship, but you might just want someone to have cybersex with. You might want to really think about this.

Online dating dilemma?
A few months ago I joined an online dating site. I have met up with this guy twice, and were planning to meet again. We had spoken for months on MSN before we finally met.
I haven't told my family about him because its early days. This guy has told his folks about me but lied and told them we met in a bar.
Now its my turn to tell my parents but I do not wish to lie to them because if we ever got into a relationship, I know the truth will come out me met online. I really like him but I dont wish to start anything based on a lie.
Should I tell my my parents my own lie, as If i tell them the truth im sure they'd disprove. Or discontinue meeting this guy?
Is it sad meeting online? Were both young 22 year olds. All comments appriciated thanks.
Online dating dilemma?
There is no stigma now attached to on line dating. It's a very, very common way to meet people. What are your alternatives? The church? errr No. Night Clubs (they're all drunk usually), Pubs? (Ditto). Your parents, if they are supportive, will appreciate that you have taken the time and effort to get to know this person by MSN before actually meeting. I believe YOU are the problem in that YOU and only you find it sad to be dating online. But in reality what is the difference where you met? Would it be any better to tell your parents you met at a night club. No. Be proud of what you have done. Obviously you like him and he does you too. So don't start with a lie. Tell your parents the truth and I'm sure they will not see it the way you do.
Good Luck, Sweetie..
Reply:There's nothing to be ashamed about. I know plenty of people who date online. one of my friends met her husband that way. Just explain to them that you met through a legitimate dating service and you're happy!!! They will come around. Good luck!

Reply:This is very controversial, some people are a bit embarrassed to let the world know they met online, others don't give a monkeys so I guess its all down to how comfortable you feel with it. If you get on well together then why would you want to stop seeing him. As for your parents, just tell them you met at (the first place you physically met him) then that wouldn't be a lie ... just not the whole truth! Also - be careful, it is still early days. Follow your gut instincts!
Reply:u should just tell it how it is... people meet on the internet all the time.
Reply:i think on line dating is great as long as you play safe ...i met my partner of dating direct..u shudnt have to lie to ya folks ..im sure if they see you happy and he treats u well they wont care where u met him ..good luck
Reply:It's not sad at all to meet someone online. Increasingly more and more young people are finding love and making connections this way - hardly surprising when so many of us use the Internet nearly every day. I was in the same situation as you once, although it was the other way around, I was tempted to lie about how we met and he was prepared to tell people we met online. Don't take his lie too personally, he perhaps feels embarrassed (not of you!) of how you met because maybe he's never had an online relationship before and has never "believed" in them so to speak. That was the case with me, anyway - I was always the kind of person to sneer at online relationships until I made a great connection with a guy I got to know in a chat room. And here we are, two years later, still together and now proud and grateful of how we met.
I think you should tell your parents the truth. Think about it: won't they be much more concerned for you if they find out you were lying? You're effectively saying to them "it's something to be worried about" by not being honest (at least from their parental perspective). Don't give up on your relationship because of his lie - it might well just be out of shyness and worry that his parents will rain on his parade by saying online relationships aren't the real deal. Parents are from another generation and they don't always understand how things work today - my parents were worried I'd get hurt but now they're happy for me because they see how happy I am and how strong my relationship is.
Good luck, I hope it all works out for you.
Reply:Honesty rocks, keep it simple ok,, im telling you that you are in line with being honest,, keep it that way and if nature cant handle that then its problem,,, you are on the right track,, i know you have such a nice parent, they might say thing because they wanna protect you ,, you cannot be angry to them because of that, you have to tell them and follow your heart, i mean its your life, tell them because they have to accept the choice you make,,, i tell my family who am i going out with ,,why because its healthy,, it lets them know we are not doing any hanky panky with out lives,,,you must be asian !
Reply:Its not sad you met on the internet, But why lie to your family if you start now your whole relationship will be a lie.So its worth being up front from the start and your family should respect your decision at the end of the day, As you are both adults.
Reply:online dating isnt sad,and how cares wot your family thinks, ure 22yrs old,and he told his family first, eventho he lied,it shows hes serious about you, otherwise he wudnt ave told them at all
Reply:first you say you don't want to lie, then you ask if you should lie.
very confusing.
Reply:Tell them the truth. They may think it strange at first or even worry about the guy creep. Just tell them he's a great guy and it doesn't matter where or how you met. You could even ask if they think it would be better if it was some guy who picked you up in the bar.
I know a lot of people think it is strange to meet someone on line. That's partly because it so new and people don't understand it. It's also partly because it has gotten a bad rap in the media. They keep showing stories about some girl who meets some one on line and the guy is a stalker or rapist. I reality this doesn't happen any more then any other way of meeting a guy. It just gets ratings so that what they show on TV. They rarely show a story about a couple who met on line and are now happily married.
Reply:at 22 why do you need your parents approval.....?????

Does ps2 online play affect modem as in braking it.?
i do the same thing you do but no it doesnt it so far.
Reply:we do it at our house with no problems but I was told by the cable company that my brand of modem will hold 3 nic addresses and we only have three devices on the network. So if I wanted to put another device on or change devices I have to reboot the cable modem to have it read the new nic card.

Online jobs? Does anyone know of any LEGIT. online sites where you can make $$$ from home?
So I need another source of income, I recently encountered a life altering situation where I need to work from home. I am desperately trying to search for online websites, where I can fill out surveys, or be an online chat-room monitor, or just about anything along those lines, but every time I research one I find and think is legitimate, it turns out it is a scam. I really NEED some help and I am hoping anyone out there can point me in the right direction, give me the name of real, legitimate websites that won't scam me out of my money.
???
Somewhere I can make a decent income while at home.
Help Please.
Thanks!

Online Degrees Vs. Campaus University Degrees?
I am currently pursuing an online degree in Criminal Justice.
This is like my 5 semester so far. I am worried that most employers are not going to look at my online degre as if it was a On Campaus University Degree. Is there anyone who had any success with an Online Degree? Are you satisifed with the career you have? Please provide any valuable feedback.
Online Degrees Vs. Campaus University Degrees?
I'm an Regional HR Manager and to be honest, at first glance I would put an on campus 4 year degree higher than an online degree. I would look at the other factors as well. Work/volunteer experiences etc. So for myself and other recruiters in CA I know, it would hold value, may not be as high as an established title IV onsite campus. Keep going through with it through. Another reason prospective employers like to see degrees is to see that you had stuck through it.

Online blogging?
people are lately getting a hang of having an online journal.
however when they decides to make in open to public, they yet blame people for being a nosey parker.
they say that, others shouldn't invade their privacy and should not read their online journals.
isn't this being contradicting?
you are opening to public and yet when people reads it,you do not allow!
than, don't open an account for online journal.
have the old fashioned diary!
do you guys agree?
Online blogging?
Just because a person has a blog with content expressing views and/or opinions that are favorable to them, doesn't mean that they will agree with all of the comments submitted by posters who visit the site, especially when those posters are being complete a*%holes.
Debate, controversy, etc., are not uncommon factors one will face when one opens themselves up to public scrutiny, it's all part of the package, and, in some cases, increases site traffic.
Of course, the blogger has the option of keeping the blog private, but then, what would be the point of online expression if only the blogger knows about it, a personal diary would suffice then.
Reply:I do agree with you, I have thought about doing a blog however then I thought I do not the whole world to read about my life and personal issues so for that reason I am not doing one, it is to be expected that some nasty people will leave bad or offensive comments I for one dont need that.So I'll be blog free thankyou very much.
Reply:totally
Reply:In my opinion, the purpose of blogging is to share information or personal experiences with others. Where they can comment on your information or experiences.
Reply:I can type faster than I can write by hand so in a way, if I wanted to create a blog, it makes more sense for me to do it online. There is always the option of keeping it private if I really wanted it.
People may argue that it could easily be done with a word document etc. if I wanted to type it, but I guess its easier to blog when e.g. Blogger, blogspot etc. can help to organise things quickly and easily - you can add categories, links etc. at the click of a button; sort your blog in date/category order and such.

Online Schooling versus the old skool?
Is online schooling completely crappy or the best invention known to man? I just want to know from some people who actually go online for schooling. And is $1,700 per course expensive for an online program?
Online Schooling versus the old skool?
i attend a cyber charter school... ill admit the education i am recieving isnt as good as a regular public school, but i can go at my own rate and am even able to get college credits.
Reply:Online classes don't work for every subject. For example, Accounting or Engineering.
You have to be shown how to do that, it's not something you can understand like History by just reading it.
It's also bad if your internet connection dies in the middle of an exam !!
Reply:Even if the education is better the experience has to be inferior, Everyone needs the human contact of regular school.
Reply:ya, you are being ripped, most REAL university have some online classes you can take, I won't trust the no names, this isn't disco books
Reply:On-line schools are expensive. In fact, I was in on-line school for 2 years and I got out of it because I really needed to be with people and meet the professor face to face in some of the classes. For example, I really needed some one-to-one help in math and finance classes. On-line classes can get lonely also because you don't get the kind of interaction as in a campus "old school" setting. I don't mind doing certain classes -- like English Literature -- on-line but there are certain classes which would be better in a live "old school" classroom setting with actual people to interact with face-to-face.
Reply:I go to online college. I love it! It's very convenient... you can do your work whenever you have time. They give you a schedule to have assignments and quizzes done. Otherwise, you work at your own pace. It takes some planning and perseverance, but if you can work unsupervised, it is perfect for you. In my case, online schooling was less expense than in-person college. I work full-time so this is the best option for me.
Reply:Old School . Learn Much More.
Reply:One of the network evening news programs did an expose on fraud in Online Schooling just recently. Apparently it's fairly pervasive. If it isn't offered by a reputable university, I'd pass on it if I were you.
Reply:Online schooling is good for those people who can't make it to a traditional school to attend classes. It is better than correspondence since it is faster and makes question and answer reasonable in a tight time frame. The price is reasonable for a college or university level course, but if you are doing high school level courses, I agree that it is a bit steep.

Online Relationship?
We'd been BFF's for a year online then it became more. We mboth dumped our 'other' and we exchange phone calls and I love you's now. He doesn't consider it BF and GF because he doesn't think you can have one online with school, etc. So he says were 'in love' but IDK does he want one or not? He loves me but is he afraid of commitment or is is that hes just not experiences in online ships that he thinks that its not possible/
Online Relationship?
Human relationships that have the possibility to develop into life-long partnerships are the hardest events with which most people have to deal. Open and honest communication is the key and the best method to allow people to get close.
Although on-line relationships often develop into Romance attachments, seldom do people find themselves in a long term loving relationship without person to person contact. Too much of the non-verbal communication is lost and filled in with assumptions.
It sounds like he is keeping his options open. You would be wise to do the same, especially if the two of you have never met in the flesh.
Reply:if you arent seeing eachother in real life, then it can turn very unhealthy. its fine to make friends online and even to meet people to date, but if your entire relationship is online, it won't be a healthy relationship. I have a friend who has had several online only relationships, and it has really screwed her up. now she doesnt n\know how to act in a "real" relationship. so i would advise against it.
Reply:Sad truth - he is messing with your head.
Someone who is in love with you would respect you enough to either formally acknowledge you as is girlfriend, or stop stringing you along. If he is afraid of online relationships, he shouldn't have started one.
Tell him that you've figured all this out, and that you're going to start looking for a full time, in person boyfriend. Then do it.

Online shopping?
ok, so i live in hawaii where there are only surf shops (like pacsun, hollister, ae, af) and i'm TOTALLY SICK OF IT. i'm an 18 year old girl who doesn't need the drop dead expensive designer clothes like louis v or w/e; i would just like a place i can shop online that's stylish and casual.
since honolulu is theeee worst place to buy clothes, i don't really know of the stores out there. i've bought things from urban outfitters, but that's the only online store i'm aware of. on this island i like diesel.
basically, have any online store suggestions with funky, fashionable, fun clothes? i'm desperate.

Reply:Runescape- Good "Family" game. I've been playing it for about a year and there is a lot of fighting but no blood. There is a little splat that tells you how much damage you dealt. It is a MMORPG and pretty much everyone around the world can play it. It is free BUT you can by membership. It just gives you access to more of the area and items. Lots of more quest. If you get stuck go to RuneHq.com. Its got everything. There is millions of items and you can trade with people from around the world. Great place to meet friends too.

Feedback about online learning?
I wanted to start taking online classes to become a web site developer. I wanted to get some feedback from anyone who has or is doing online classes. Do you feel like you get just as good of a learning online as you would in a classroom, and do you feel it is more convienent. Do you know of any good acredited online schools? Are they more expensive?
Feedback about online learning?
Be sure you know everything about the people you are dealing with!!!
I know people who have done tons of classes on-line and did fine.
You can check certifications on the states websites, consumer reports etc.
I do all my continuing education on-line. I love it, haven't had problems, did check it out first
Reply:I am an online student and I think it's great. You communicate with your classmates through discussion boards, e-mail, chat, and so on. My books are shipped to me at home, and I log on to the virtual classroom to upload assignments. Some of my professors even teach at campus schools at the same time. You may do a bit more reading and writing assessments, and some exams may require a proctor. Do a web search for online schools that offer web design. Also check their accreditation. I do not think they are more expensive, and some are now accepting federal aid. It's way more convenient because you log on when you want to and don't have to work around a set class time. The school I go to is American Military University. There are many others like University of Phoenix, Colorado Technical, University of Maryland online, Penn State, ........the list goes on. Online schools are the future. Good luck in your studies!

Online Course - Do I drop without comment or tell the school?
I'm taking an online course from a accredited college to round out this semester. After struggling through the first two months (and talking with her in detail), I've come to the realization, this teacher either a) does not want to teach this class or b) does not understand how to teach and online course. I'm not alone; other students have posted concerns of the teachers ability, which she responses quickly and with sarcasim at times. I have decided to withdraw from the class, since this will jepordize my honor role status.
So question, which one (please only answere either #1 or #2) -
#1 - Should I just withdraw from the class quietly or...
#2 - Do I collect all my previous graded work, include all correspondance between the teacher and myself and write a letter to the school explaining this teacher is not capable of teaching an online course...and then withdrawl.
Online Course - Do I drop without comment or tell the school?
# 2
Some instructors that "teach" on line courses do not take them seriously. This not only makes the coursework more difficult that it should be but cheats the student out of an education.
Definitely contact the school and, in a very formal letter, outline your complaints. Try to substantiate your claims with facts and dates and copies of your teachers responses. Finally, politely demand your money back (you won't get it but you will at least get a response and this will lead you down the proper path to file your complaint).
I've had teachers like this both in and out of the classroom and most of the time it would be better if they were not even involved.
