By online homework, I mean the teachers assign you to go to a website in order to get your homework assignment, download it, work on it, and then send it to the teacher over the internet. Personally, I think that online homework should only be used when all the teachers know that all the students have access to the internet and are capable of downloading. Do you think that online homework only benefits some people and not everyone? Is online homework even necessary?
Opinions about online homework?
I think that teachers assigning online homework to all students without knowing if all their students have access to the internet is very irresponsible on their part. If those students can't do the assignment, then they get a failing grade for that assignment, but it is all due to no internet at home to do the work....yeah sounds kinda like the teacher didn't find out if all students could do it this way.
However, if it is a computer class and one of the requirements is that the students have access to the internet and be able to get, complete, and return homework via the internet....then the fault lies with the student. The student was the irresponsible one, he/she took a class without having the tools available to fullfill the requirements of the class.
Reply:I'm with you- it should only be given when everyone has access to the Internet from home. On a college level, I think it's absolutely acceptable. On a high school (or lower) level, I think it's only acceptable when everyone can complete the assignment. If it's something that can be done using the computer labs at school DURING school hours, I could see that being okay. Otherwise, it's unfair to students of lower income families.
As for it being necessary, I definitely think it is...Not as homework, but as classwork at the very least. Our world is becoming more and more dependent on technology every day. If students of all levels aren't given the opportunity to work with technology, then we (educators) are doing them a great disservice.
