Online school programs?

i'm a military spouse %26amp; was kind of hoping that someone could give some good online colleges that work with people associated with the military. i have found some, but what is the best. people who have experienced online courses, are they good? any "free" online stuff that will help with getting a job/caeer you want? i'm looking for a career in IT... computer technician preferrably. i would sign up to receive info from these websites... but i don't want to talk to a rep just yet.

Online school programs?
Congratulations on thinking about furthering your education, you won't regret it.

There are several options for military spouses. Community colleges that are located near military bases are usually very familiar about working with military families. Also, check with the base education office, they are there to mainly help the soldiers, but they also have programs for the families. If you are overseas, the education office will have information on programs that can be done through correspondence or even on base. For example, when I was stationed in Germany in the early 90s, I took some classes through University of Maryland, University College.

If you take an online program, this will probably be the most likely way you could complete a degree from a single school. The state universities and community colleges will be the best and least expensive way to further your education online. Usually degrees obtained online from state universities and colleges will be no different than a degree granted to a student sitting in class. You probably won't get a scholarship, but financial aid is possible.

Stay away from the for-profits because of high cost. Some will be reasonable, but most, like University of Phoenix, overcharge. Also, the reps will usually bug you constantly until you insist they go away. I recently signed up at Kaplans website to get information for some research I was doing. A rep called me everyday for over a week before he accepted that I wasn't going to enroll.

Many state universities now have online degrees. The following are some websites to get you started.

American Public University (APU) and it's sister school American Military University (AMU) are both familiar with military families. I don't know if they have the particular degree you want though. Tuition is $250 per semester credit hour, which may be covered by tuition assistance. You will have to check at the base education office about that. The good thing about APU/AMU is that the tuition includes books. This really helps when you are overseas, because they take care of shipping the books to you. You won't have to search for your textbook.

Fort Hays State University is another school that is familiar with military. They may not be as flexible as APU, but tuition is much cheaper at $137 per semester credit hour. They also have a bachelor's degree program in Internetworking and Telecommunications that may interest you.

When you choose a school, make sure it is at least regionally accredited. You can check accreditation at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/search.a... You can learn more about accreditation at http://www.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/i... All of the schools mentioned in this post are regionally accredited.

Finally, there are a couple of forums online with members who have obtained their degrees online. Some have gone pretty far with their online degrees. The forums are free to join but you can read the forum without joining. You just won't be able to post. http://forums.degreeinfo.com and http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums
